This Privacy Policy describes the privacy practices of the Empathy mobile application. Our app is designed to allow you to organize your inbox and prioritize the messages that matter most to you.

  1. Personal Information Collection

We collect the following personal information:

Information you provide when you connect your email account:

Mailbox Contents: 

When you connect your third-party email account to our app, you provide the app with access to your email account, including the contents of your inbox, which the app will use solely to provide the services to you as described in this Privacy Policy. Please note that the contents of your inbox are stored and processed directly on your device, Empathy and our personnel do not have access to this information.

Other information you provide:

  • Contact information, such as your email address.

  • Feedback or correspondence, such as information you provide when you contact us with questions, feedback, or otherwise correspond with us online. 

  • Device contacts, if you choose to grant the app access to your contact book. We will use this information to allow you to invite others to join the app and to personalize your experience using the app. You can always change your device settings to terminate our access to your contact book.

  • Marketing information, such as your preferences for receiving our marketing communications and details about your engagement with them.

  • Usage information, such as information about how you use and interact with our app, including information you provide when you use any interactive features of the app. 

  • Other information that we may collect, which is not specifically listed here, but which we will use in accordance with this Privacy Policy or as otherwise disclosed at the time of collection.

Data collected automatically. We and our service providers may automatically log information about you or your mobile device, and your interactions over time with our app, such as:

  • Device data, such as your mobile device’s operating system type and version, manufacturer and model, RAM and disk size, CPU usage, device type (e.g., phone, tablet), IP address, language settings, mobile device carrier, radio/network information (e.g., WiFi, LTE, 3G), and general location information such as city, state, or geographic area.

  • App event data, such as pages or screens you viewed, how long you spent on a page or screen, navigation paths between pages or screens, and information about your activity on a page or screen, access dates and times, and duration of access.

  • Authentication tokens. When you sign in and connect your third-party email account to the app, we will collect and store encrypted authentication tokens from that third-party provider.

Information about non-users. App users may sync their device’s contact book in order to invite others to use the app and to allow the app to help personalize those users’ experience using the app. 

  1. PERSONAL INFORMATION USE

Your Mailbox Contents are processed on your device, and we do not have access to that information.

We use personal information other than the Mailbox Contents to operate, improve, and develop our app, including to:

  • Operate, maintain, secure, and analyze our app.

  • Improve our app, and develop new products and services, including to develop and train AI models.

  • Communicate with you about our app, including by sending you announcements, updates, security alerts, and support and administrative messages.

  • Market our app, and other products and services that we believe may be of interest to you.

  • Understand your needs and interests, and personalize your experience with our app.

We may also use personal information to comply with applicable laws, lawful requests, and legal process; protect our, your, or others’ rights, privacy, safety, or property; comply with our policies and procedures; enforce the terms and conditions that govern our app; and prevent, identify, investigate, and deter fraudulent, harmful, unauthorized, unethical, or illegal activity, including cyberattacks and identity theft.

  1. PERSONAL INFORMATION DISCLOSURE

Your Mailbox Contents are processed on your device, and we do not have the ability to disclose that information.

We may disclose other personal information we collect to:

Service providers. Companies and individuals that provide services on our behalf or help us operate our app or our business (such as hosting, information technology, customer support, and app analytics services).

Professional advisors. Professional advisors, such as lawyers, auditors, bankers, and insurers, where necessary in the course of the professional services that they render to us.

Authorities and others. Law enforcement, government authorities, and private parties, as we believe in good faith to be necessary or appropriate for the compliance and protection purposes described above.

Business transferees. Acquirers and other relevant participants in business transactions (or negotiations for such transactions) involving a corporate divestiture, merger, consolidation, acquisition, reorganization, sale, or other disposition of all or any portion of the business or assets of, or equity interests in our business (including in connection with a bankruptcy or similar proceedings).

  1. Your Choices

Uninstall the app. You may choose to stop the collection of information by the app by uninstalling the app from your device. 

Adjust contact book preferences. You can revoke the app’s access to your contact book by adjusting your device settings.

Disable push notifications. You may disable push notifications through your device settings.

Opt out of marketing communications. You may opt out of marketing-related communications by following the opt-out or unsubscribe instructions contained in the marketing communications we send to you.

  1. LINKS TO OTHER SERVICES

Our app may contain links to other services not operated or controlled by us. The information that you share with these third-party services will be governed by the specific privacy policies and terms of service of the third-party services and not by this Privacy Policy. By providing these links, we do not imply that we endorse or have reviewed these services. Please contact the third-party services directly for information on their privacy practices and policies.

  1. Retention

We keep personal information – other than the Mailbox Contents – for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, while we have a business need to do so, or as required by law (e.g. for tax, legal, accounting, or other purposes), whichever is longer.

  1. Data Security

We employ a number of technical, organizational, and physical safeguards designed to protect the personal information we maintain. However, no security measures are fail-safe, and we cannot guarantee the security of your personal information.

  1. CHILDREN

Our app is not intended for use by children under 13 years of age. If we learn that we have collected personal information through our app from a child under 13 without the consent of the child’s parent or guardian as required by law, we will delete it.

  1. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to modify this Privacy Policy at any time. If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the date of this Privacy Policy and post it in our app, or notify you as otherwise required by law.
